Intended for new staff and those who are new to Medi-Cal or managed care, this helpful primer will improve your understanding of the Medi-Cal program’s structure and purpose, as well as offer an overview of what Medi-Cal managed care is, who it serves and how it works.

Who should attend:
This introductory webinar may be most valuable and informative for individuals who are new to managed care and/or the Medi-Cal environment. The program may also be valuable for local health plan staff who have not yet participated in the LHPC Institute’s Medi-Cal Managed Care 101 course.

Faculty

John F. Grgurina Jr.
Former Chief Executive Officer
San Francisco Health Plan

As Chief Executive Officer of San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP), John Grgurina led the mission-driven SFHP staff and Governing Board to ensure that San Francisco was a healthy community for all. During his 14+ year tenure, SFHP was the highest ranked public Medi-Cal plan every year based on aggregated quality measures and won multiple awards for Outstanding Performance in Quality Care from DHCS for the Medi-Cal program. The plan also experienced significant growth, quintupling their Medi-Cal membership.

Prior to SFHP, John served as President and Executive Officer of PacAdvantage, Chief Deputy and Lead Negotiator of the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board and as an analyst at the State Department of Finance assigned to the Medi-Cal budget.

John earned his bachelor’s degree from UCLA and Masters of Public Administration from California State University, Hayward.

Participating in the Webinar: You will only need a computer with an updated web browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox or Safari are recommended). Participants may opt to listen to the webinar via telephone or device.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation notification must be submitted in writing to institute@lhpc.org seven or more days prior to the course date. Refunds will not be given after that date. Substitutions are encouraged. Payment will be due for registered individuals that do not attend the event and for which a cancellation notice is not received.
