Local Health Plans Applaud Governor Newsom’s Appointment of Dr. Brad Gilbert as DHCS Director

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Brianna Lierman, CEO of Local Health Plans of California (LHPC), a group representing 16 of the not-for-profit local health plans that serve more than 70 percent of Californians enrolled in Medi-Cal managed care, praised Governor Newsom’s appointment of new Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) director Dr. Brad Gilbert:

“Dr. Gilbert has the experience, expertise and heart to lead the largest Medicaid program in the nation. Governor Newsom has laid out a bold vision for health care with Medi-Cal at the forefront of this transformation. Brad Gilbert is one of the very few people qualified to lead our health care safety net into the future. Dr. Gilbert’s career has been dedicated to serving the public, as the leader of a local Medi-Cal plan, as a county public health director and as a practicing physician, which will benefit the 13 million Californians with Medi-Cal coverage.”
